African American Biographical Database Description: The African American Biographical Database (AABD) contains the biographies of thousands of African Americans, assembled from biographical dictionaries and other sources. The collection contains extended narratives of African American activists, business people, former slaves, performing artists, educators, lawyers, physicians, writers, church leaders, homemakers, religious workers, government workers, athletes, farmers, scientists, factory workers, and more--both the famous and the everyday person. Its initial content comes from Chadwyck-Healey’s Black Biographical Dictionaries 1790-1950.

African American Music Reference via Alexander Street Press Description: African American Music Reference brings together text reference, biographies, chronologies, sheet music, images, lyrics, liner notes, and discographies which chronicle the diverse history and culture of the African American experience through music. The database is constantly expanding to include comprehensive coverage of blues, jazz, spirituals, civil rights songs, slave songs, minstrelsy, rhythm and blues, gospel, and other forms of black American musical expression. As the database grows, it will be supplemented with other noted reference titles covering the histories of jazz, blues, bebop, hip hop, ragtime, gospel, and rhythm and blues, as well as a detailed chronology of African American events in music, links to web resources, searchable sheet music, and new reference titles.
